President Trump’s campaign seems determined to continue the unconscionable trend, as it has throughout the entire election season. He has initiated legal action to invalidate ballots in at least three of the four states where Black voters made the difference -- Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Georgia -- and in Nevada, where Latinos make up almost 30% of the population.

Police in Dema, Mashonaland East province, have launched a manhunt for four armed robbers who pounced on a businessman before stealing a cashbox with US$30 000, among other valuables. BY JAIROS SAUNYAMA The businessman, Hazvinei Mutasa (43) also lost his pistol to the armed robbers who besieged his homestead. Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident and urged people not to keep large sums of money at home. “The public is warned against keeping large sums of cash at home,” Mwanza said. “This is a security risk which results in the money being easily stolen through robberies. We also take this opportunity to appeal to anyone who might have information on the whereabouts of the suspects to report at any nearest police station.” On November 10 at around 8pm, Mutasa was in company of his two workersoutside his home when armed men approached them and ordered them to lie on the ground. One of the suspects allegedly fired shots in the air and disarmed Mutasa of his FN Browning pistol. It is reported that three of the suspects remained outside, while others dragged Mutasa inside demanding money. The suspects disabled the alarm at the premises and threatened to kill the businessman’s child if he refused to surrender the money. He reportedly surrendered the cashbox which was in his bedroom containing US$30 000. The suspects also dismantled a CCTV server. They also got away with a Samsung S10 cellphone, Itel P33 cellphone and two small Itel cellphones before speeding off in a vehicle belonging to one of Mutasa’s workers. The vehicle was recovered in Vera village, Seke. The matter was reported at Dema Police Station and no arrests have been made. Follow Jairos onTwitter @jairossaunyama
Rescue teams out in force on Wednesday in the Mediterranean as they tried to save some 88 people, including children and babies, who have been shipwrecked on a flimsy boat that gave way.
The Open arms vessel said it recovered five bodies and that the rickety boat collapsed and tipped them into the sea.
The Spanish NGO managed to distribute waistcoats and masks in the moments before the ground sank.
It is the second migrant boat that the organisation's vessel has rescued in less than 24 hours.
Several miles away it was a similar situation but on a different boat. Some 13 people drowned off the Libyan coast while it managed to save 85 who were adrift and in danger of sinking in international waters.
Their boat was badly damaged, with water and gasoline spilled inside.
The NGO has criticised the fact that the countries of the Mediterranean have abandoned these people and have not moved government relief teams.
Since the start of the year, more than 575 migrants have died while trying to reach Europe, according to the UN's Migration body the IOM.
The rescue ship set sail from the port of Barcelona (northeast Spain) on November 4 bound for the central Mediterranean, where in recent days it was waiting to receive a request for help.

As Joseph R. Biden Jr. begins his presidential transition, here are some of the names that have emerged for top jobs in his administration.
Pharrell Is Finally Revealing His Skincare Routine With Latest Line Of Products
US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo refused to answer a question over whether or not the US State Department was standing in the way of a succesful transition by the incoming administration of President-elect Joe Biden.
On Tuesday, he told reporters that the \"transition\" to a second Trump term would be \"smooth,\" but later said the State Department was prepared for any eventuality.
A week after losing the US election, President Trump remained shut up in the White House on Tuesday, pushing an alternate reality that he is about to win and blocking Democrat Joe Biden's ability to prepare the transition.
The outgoing President has refused to concede to his opponent. President Trump has however mounted a string of flimsy court challenges in states where Biden won.
Several suits have been thrown out almost immediately and the remainder clearly have no chance of overturning Biden's slim but convincing victories in multiple states.
Donald Trump's attempt to hold on to power has become all consuming for a man who often makes a point of publicly mocking rivals as \"losers.\"
Since Election Day on November 3, he has made few public appearances and seems to have all but shelved normal presidential duties.
BY KENNEDY NYAVAYA THE burial of the late fitness trainer-cum-model Michelle “Moana” Amuli could be delayed for about two weeks as the family has to follow a lengthy Deoxyribonucleic Acid (DNA) testing process to verify her remains after she was burnt beyond recognition in a freak accident on Sunday morning. The 26-year-old video vixen was in the company of controversial businessman Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure whose Rolls-Royce Wraith II vehicle collided head-on with a Honda Fit along Borrowdale Road, Harare, while driving back to his Domboshava home. They were coming from Moana’s birthday party that was held at Ginimbi’s Club Dreams, formerly Sankayi in Harare’s avenues area. Also in the car was Limumba Karim, believed to be from Malawi and Alichia Adams believed to be from Mozambique who both perished in the accident. In an interview with NewsDay Life & Style yesterday, at the deceased's home in Highfield, Moana’s sister and family spokesperson Tatenda said the funeral arrangements had been thrown into disarray as her sister’s remains were holed up at Doves Funeral Parlour in Harare, awaiting DNA test results from Parirenyatwa. “We thought the body that we saw the day before yesterday (Sunday) was the one, but it was not. So today (yesterday) they refused to do another post-mortem, saying they will need to do DNAs tests which means that we have to wait two weeks,” she said. “We appealed for the process to be quickened and they promised to call us today (yesterday) to let us know if they can reconsider.” A family friend, only identified as Mai Karara pleaded with Moana’s influential friends to assist to speed up the DNA tests. “We have known her (Moana) since she was a child, the DNA process is too long and we cannot wait for weeks as it is too much time to mourn. I am, therefore, pleading with her friends, whoever she used to hang around with including all the famous people, so they can come and assist us to identify the body for her to rest,” she said. “We are appealing to the whole of Zimbabwe to help. These children died in a painful manner. So we are pleading with anyone because her mother’s state now is not so good and for her to stay like this is not right.” Since the passing on of Moana there have been different narratives about her life with interviews with the father and mother shading more light about her. “Those who know her as a celeb, they know her in that capacity, but for us she never changed, she was friendly to everyone. This is why you see that even local peers are here because she embraced everyone even when she became rich,” a neighbour said. As a video vixen, Moana had featured in a number of videos among them Jah Prayzah’s Munyaradzi, Miridzo by Freeman, Takura’s Zvemoyo and Enzo Ishall’s Mwenje. Follow Kennedy on Twitter @ken_nyavaya

By SETH BORENSTEIN AP Science Writer Hurricanes are keeping their staying power longer once they make landfall, spreading more inland destruction, according to a new study. Warmer ocean waters from climate change are likely making hurricanes lose power more slowly after landfall, because they act as a reserve fuel tank for moisture, the study found. With Hurricane Eta threatening Florida and the Gulf Coast in a few days, the study's lead author warned of more damage away from the coast than in the past. The new study looked at 71 Atlantic hurricanes with landfalls since 1967. It found that in […]

The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators in Zimbabwe (ICSAZ) has been admitted to the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC) as an associate member, only the second Professional Accountancy Organisation in Zimbabwe to become a member. IFAC is the global organisation for the accountancy profession. It has more than 175 member and associate member organisations in 130 countries and jurisdictions, together representing nearly three million professional accountants. The decision to admit ICSAZ as an associate member was announced following a virtual meeting of the IFAC Council today (Wednesday), which accepted an IFAC board recommendation, made in September, that ICSAZ be admitted as an associate member. Previously the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe was the only local institute belonging to IFAC IFAC membership is a globally recognised hallmark of a high quality professional accountancy organisation. Its requirements for membership include the adoption of international standards and support for their implementation, thereby demonstrating a member organisation’s expertise in and commitment to international standards, best practice and serving the public interest. Commenting on the institute’s admission to IFAC, ICSAZ chief executive Dr.Lovemore Gomera said he was delighted that the institute’s application for membership had been accepted. “ICSAZ as a division is unique within the global Chartered Governance Institute (CGI) in producing chartered governance professionals who are also professional accountants. Our members are able to register as public accountants with the Public Accountants and Auditors Board (PAAB), a body on which ICSAZ is also represented. “It has long been our wish to become members of IFAC, the international accountancy body. Our admission as a member of IFAC is a significant milestone for ICSAZ and confirms our place within the accountancy profession,” Dr Gomera said. President Cyril Ramaphosa says signs of a resurgence in Covid-19 cases in the Eastern Cape should serve as a warning to citizens to remain vigilant.
BY RICHARD MUPONDE HARARE, renamed from the colonial Salisbury, in the early days of independence, was widely referred to as the Sunshine City owing to its squeaky-clean streets and orderly, smart and clean residential suburbs. Harare’s cleanliness and orderliness echoed throughout Sadc, and undoubtedly contributed to “The Jewel of Africa” moniker accorded the country by statesmen like Tanzania’s former President, the late Julius Mwalimu Nyerere. Sadly, the city has over the decades deteriorated to some stinky hellhole that nobody can be proud to be associated with. Old timers get nolstalgic about the old Harare when today they come across huge mounds of garbage at street corners, minefields of potholes, total absence of street lighting and a literal invasion of pavements by poverty stricken vegetable and other vendors. In the past the city fathers used to collect garbage every week which was a well-planned and monitored programme of servicing the suburbs where refuse trucks had a timetable for collecting garbage. However, things have gone out of hand as garbage heaps grow at every street corner in the central business district. Litter bugs go scot-free with no one to enforce by-laws against littering resulting in a health time bomb. The influx of vendors in the central business district (CBD) has also exacerbated the problem as they dump garbage anywhere near their operating sites without care or worry. Meanwhile council does not collect its movable bins placed at strategic points in the city making Harare an eyesore. During the lockdown period council workers took advantage of the absence of people in the CBD and cleaned it up, but that has all come to naught as the situation has returned to original dirty settings. A resident of Kuwadzana, Admire Mutengiwa, said the city council was letting residents down by not collecting garbage when every month it billed them for a once a week refuse collection. “The way the council is operating is short-changing ratepayers. I think it is wise for them not to collect our money if they can’t collect the garbage. Heaps of garbage are piling on every open space in this suburb and around the whole city. Organisations such as Environment Management Agency (EMA) should fine the council heavily because it is the one driving residents to dump garbage everywhere,” he said. Mutengiwa’s sentiments were echoed by Kelvin Pamire, from the same suburb, who said litter bugs should be arrested and the city council fined for polluting the city with uncollected garbage. “Law enforcement should take its course and those littering the environment should be brought to book. Council shouldn’t be spared because it is the driving force behind all this mess,” Pamire said. Precious Shumba, director for Harare Residents Trust (HRT), said refuse collection was virtually non-existent in Harare. “Uncollected garbage continues to pile in open spaces, at shopping centres, street corners in other residential places and the Avenues area. Residents are charged for once a week refuse collection on their monthly bi
