THE TT Meteorological Service's (Met Office) latest forecast has maintained its Adverse Weather Alert until 6 pm on August 5.
In the forecast issued at 7.45 am, Met Office warned that heavy showers and isolated thunderstorm activity with gusty winds were being experienced mainly in southern Trinidad. It said rainfall accumulations will exacerbate localised ponding and can lead to filled water courses in smaller streams.
While the alert is for both islands, it said less intense impactful weather was expected over Tobago with activity occurring intermittently.
The Met Office warned the public to avoid wading or driving through flood waters, to secure loose outdoor items and livestock and to monitor weather conditions.
In its 10.03 am forecast, the Met Office added there is also a 40 to 60 per cent chance of isolated thunderstorm activity.
The alert was first issued at 3.36 pm on August 4 and went into effect at 11 pm that day. The Met Office said the inclement weather was due to the passage of a tropical wave, which is also modulating the Inter-Tropical Convergence Zone.
