THE EDITOR: The United National Congress (UNC) is in good hands with the Star Team and Kamla Persad-Bissessar at the helm.
The future of the UNC and the opposition looks bright and this was cemented again with a new powerful mandate by the thousands of members who braced the bad weather to cast their vote for the leader of the party and her slate.
From this resounding victory it is clear the people have endorsed Persad-Bissessar once more for her leadership.
The preliminary figures show that approximately 13,000 people came out to vote in spite of the rain, adverse weather warning, flooding, lightning and thunder and several power outages in much of the southern areas of Trinidad.
The team got over 95 per cent of the votes cast according to the results from the polling stations so far. This provided a landslide victory for Persad-Bissessar and the Star Team and therefore it is easy to admire her courage, her wisdom and her leadership style.
She has shown again in these challenging times that she commands the majority within the party by bringing the UNC's membership together once again.
I join with the rest of the party's membership to applaud Persad-Bissessar in the way she has always responded in the face of opposition with an unwearable will, with calm, compassion and respect for others and her UNC family in the face of tragedy.
A true leader for our times.
