Many others came before her like Sandra Bland, a Black woman who was found hanging in a Texas jail cell just three days after being arrested during a traffic stop, Atatiana Jefferson, another Black woman fatally shot by a police officer inside her home, Tanisha Fonville, the Black woman killed in her home by a police officer during a mental health emergency, and countless others whose names never saw the light of day.
