According to an article written by Dr. Erica Martin Richards, the Chair and Medical Director for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at Sibley Memorial Hospital, Black women are at significant risk for depression. Her research shows women are at least twice as likely as men to experience an episode of major depression, and African-American women are only half as likely to seek help when compared to their white counterparts.
