"The first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically Black college," Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. , is celebrating its 110th anniversary today. Founded by Howard University undergraduates Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper, and Frank Coleman, Joined by their faculty advisor Ernest Everett Just, the organization, was founded inside the Howard Science Building (later known as the Thirkield Hall) on November 17, 1911. Eleven other undergraduate men were selected along with Love, Cooper, and Coleman to join the Alpha chapter officially organized on December 15, 1911. The fraternity formally became incorporated on October 28, 1914, and was recognized as a fraternity by Howard. The Que Dawgs motto, "friendship is essential to the soul," has always been to build a "strong and effective" unit through the binds of brotherhood.
