Fans of The Blackening can expect another installment in the near future. Variety reports that a sequel to the surprise horror/comedy The Blackening is in the works from co-writers Dewayne Perkins and Tracy Oliver and producer E. Brian Dobbins. The film’s positive word of mouth helped propel the film to make over $18 million, more than double of the film’s reported “microbudget” of $5 million. MRC and Lionsgate, who produced and distributed the first film, will be back to do the same for the sequel.
