\"Everybody on social media does just take everything for a joke.\" She said she did not get any useful information about her missing pet and is constantly at edge wondering if Peep is in pain or worse, dead.
\"Some people love materialistic things and they don't how to value life. I'm not looking for attention or fame, I just want my chicken back.\"
Khan said her mother has been a rock of support and even though she was at first sceptical about posting the missing poster on Facebook, she relented so that \"the person who took Peep will realise just how much that chicken is of value to me.\"
This newspaper decided to not use Khan's image to protect her from further trauma.
The soft-spoken woman was emotional and on the verge of tears as she recalled her time with Peep. She said her pet lived indoors, watched television, and was at her side for most of the day whenever she is at home.

On April 24, she let Peep outside to mingle with her companions, Springs and Browns, two other layers she bought to keep her beloved chicken company. Sometime between noon and 3 pm, Peep went missing and led to a frantic search in the rural community where hunting is a vocation. She could not find any feathers or even a trail of blood in the days that followed but still clings on to hope that someone stole her chicken and may have her pet alive in captivity.
\"Even if she is not alive, I still want her,\" Khan said. She said the first day without Peep was the hardest as she could not eat or sleep.
Every time Khan goes home she is reminded of the emptiness and silence without the happy chirping of her pet.
Last April, Khan was diagnosed with covid19 which knocked her off her feet.
She said Peep helped her cope during the pandemic an

On Tuesday, a private motion brought by Independent Senator Amrita Deonarine which called on the government to bring a foreign exchange (forex) policy to Parliament within six months was defeated for the third time.
All 15 government senators opposed the proposed amendments, while six opposition senators and nine independent senators voted to approve.
Senate President Christine Kangaloo broke the tie on all three votes, as she explained, to keep the motion in its original form and maintain the status quo.
For the forex business, that status quo remains challenging.
Among the critical issues with forex in TT has been the distribution of an almost continuously scarce resource, with small and medium businesses complaining of a scarcity that has proved deleterious to their operations.
In December 2019, Republic Bank led reductions in the maximum US-dollar spending limits on credit cards in the banking sector, dropping the limit for spending from US$15,000 to US$12,000.
Cash distributions to travellers have been even more dramatically limited for years.
Constraints on forex availability have also affected larger companies and even government itself.
Then THA Education Secretary Kelvin Charles explained in November 2020 that 4,000 devices for the island's schoolchildren were stuck in a warehouse awaiting the availability of forex to pay for them.
In the first three quarters of its financial year 2020-2021, Pricesmart had a decline in merchandise sales of 21.8 per cent because of reduced inventory imports related to forex shortages.
LJ Williams Ltd, which runs The Home Store, announced in February that forex shortfalls were forcing it to reconsider its investments in Trinidad.
In response to this, the government has offered straw-man defences.
The Prime Minister chided car dealers calling for more forex in October 2020 by saying he preferred to use it to buy medicine instead of cars.
Public Administration Minister Allyson West called for restaurants to use local food sources to make fries in the Senate on Tuesday, apparently unaware of previous such efforts and how completely they have failed. Those changes demand major upgrades in production capacity as well as a change in public tastes.
The government's continued defence of the exchange rate is a critical element in the supply-and-demand imbalance, creating an underground forex economy where the informal exchange rate is as high as TT$8 to US$1.
There is general agreement among economists that even extends to the Opposition that a devaluation of the TT currency won't help matters, but the widespread concern about the equity of distribution of forex remains significant.
Ms Deonarine called for an ombudsman to monitor forex distribution in March, but surely the Central Bank must play a role in addressing the pain points in the allocation of this scarce resource.

Acting Commissioner of Police McDonald Jacob has vowed the police will win the war against the “evil” plaguing the country as there were four murders on Saturday including a brazen drive-by killing of a man near the Breakfast Shed in Port of Spain.
Jacob was speaking to the media after the military-style funeral service of PC Clarence Gilkes at the D’Abadie Pentecostal Church on Ragoo Road on Saturday.
“Coming out of this funeral this afternoon and hearing about two additional murders within the land of TT, we want to give the population the assurance that the TT police service, we have the resolve, we have the resilience to protect this nation. In spite of what we (are) seeing happening, we will overcome.\"

“As the pastor said in his sermon this morning, what is happening in some instances is beyond flesh and blood. It’s evil actually stalking our land. But I’m smiling even as I have on my mask. I know that we will overcome. This is a time for TT, when we all need to come together – all the good-thinking persons who want well for TT – to bind with the TT police service. We will work together and we will move out the evil from our land. This is the right time. We are the law enforcement agency and we intend to enforce the law.\"
Jacob said in the coming weeks and months different non-government organisations, government departments and others will be joining the police \"to fight this scourge that is existing in our land. As I said, we will be victorious.”
He added that the investigation into the death of Gilkes was going well and he should be able to say more next week. Gilkes was shot in the back of the neck during a police exercise in Rich Plain Road, Diego Martin on April 22.
On Saturday, around 4 am man was shot and killed as he was stealing copper cables in Carapichaima. Then, around 3.25 am, Jillian Lewis, 45, was shot and killed at her home in Petit Bourg, and around 10 am on Saturday, Ian \"Thin Man\" Stanley of Rich Plain Road, Diego Martin was riddled with bullets in a drive-by shooting on Wrightson Road. Gunmen shot a driver along Picton Street, Woodbrook hours later killing the man instantly. Police did not immediately identify the victim.
During the sermon at Gilkes' funeral, pastor Ricky Mc Clatchie said these were perilous times when crimes and criminals have upgraded and so TT is now facing evil. He encouraged members of the protective services not to drop their hands in despair but to remember that with God anything is possible.
He said over the past two years of the pandemic, grief, pain and sorrow had become commonplace. He said no one plans for death to happen and encouraged Gilkes’ family to use their time of bereavement for self-reflection.

SANGRE GRANDE has a new club in town and they’re keen on developing the community through fun and fitness.
Ride Out cycling club, formed in July 2021, provides an outlet for the people of Sangre Grande and environs to ride recreationally and improve their lifestyle.
Co-founder of the club, Marcell Thomas, spoke with Newsday on Wednesday about the history and the goals of the club,
“It began recreationally,\" he said. \"My neighbour and I started short cycling within the area, and my uncle later took interest and joined us. He was a former cyclist with experience through his Scout group. They used to go on tours around the country.
\"Unfortunately, on a ride in 2019, he got a stroke and passed away. That inspired my neighbour and I to form something more solid that would have better measures in place to prevent such incidents in the future.”
He said he was also keen to provide something positive for his nephew, almost a teen, to take part in.
“There are other clubs in Sangre Grande, but their format is different from ours. Theirs is competitive, ours is more community-based.”
However, Thomas intends to grow the club to become strong enough for competitive cycling and still cater for the recreational riders.
Ride Out is currently not officially registered but already has 30 active members, including members of other clubs sharing their knowledge and ideas. They host both intra and inter-club events to keep their members active. Last December they held a Champion of the Loop event, which covered a 4.9km circular route around the streets of Grande. It involved other clubs from the area and cyclists were awarded prizes for fastest lap time, youngest cyclist, and Champion of the Loop – the rider who completed the most laps in 30 minutes.
“This event was not under the (Trinidad and Tobago Cycling) Federation,” said Thomas, “it was not possible as we would have had to be a registered club and pay subscriptions for them to cover insurance. But we intend to host more events as we get closer to being officially registered.”
Their next event will be a recreational ride in Matelot from May 21-22.
Thomas’s aspirations for his club to become competitive and hopefully play a part in producing national cyclists.
In addition to the current cyclists at the club, he wants to recruit more young riders and help them to develop and fulfil their potential. “We currently have two promising teenagers and the only way for them to get exposure and proper development is to compete and ride outside of Grande.”
He said the main challenge is financial. “Competitive cycling is very expensive in terms of bikes, training and equipment. We aim to have bikes at the club for competitive use. A competitive bike can cost up to $30,000 to $40,000.”
To help the club to grow and get financial assistance, Thomas said they are closely affiliated with another other club in Grande, whose coach used to ride nationally. The plan is to work together with them to develop a youth programme.
