[spotlight] For years, the Eastern Cape Department of Health has made the headlines, often for the wrong reasons. From rat-infested hospitals and newborn babies dying in overcrowded and understaffed wards to scooter ambulances that later proved to be unsafe and procured irregularly to a more recent public outcry over the lack of surgical consumables at Livingstone Hospital. Such challenges seem to have been on rinse and repeat for decades.
