Teddy Seymour was officially designated the first African American man to sail around the world solo when he completed his voyage on June 19, 1987, in Frederiksted, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. He was born in Yonkers, NY, Oct. 1, 1941. He passed away on April 11, 2023, in Eugene, Oregon. He was 81.
