Members of the Jacksonville National Council of Negro Women, Inc. (NCNW), hosted a community educational event at Teen Leaders of America location in the citys urban core.
The event began with a brief history of NCNW and their mission which is to lead, empower and advocate for women of African descent, their families and communities.
Students were tested on their voter education knowledge, which included the voting process, minimum age citizen’s voters’ rights, examples of voter suppression and the civil rights amendments which provided African American Men and Women the right to vote.
“The teens were very engaged and learned a lot based on the survey provided to them at the conclusion of this voter education event,” said member Marilynn Dawson.
