On October 11, 1975, the Theta Iota (ΘI) Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, one of the nine major predominately Black Fraternities and Sororities known as ‘The Divine 9,’ was chartered at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA.

Theta Iota Chapter was chartered by eight MIT students who were initiated into the Fraternity’s Chi (X) Chapter, which covers all of Boston and was founded in 1924:

William A. Black, Bernard H. Robinson, Fredrick Thompson, Stanley J. Washington, Leonard Nethersole, Samuel Nixon Jr., Glenn E. Perkins Jr. and Philip G. Hampton.

The Theta Iota Chapter enrolls students from MIT, Harvard and Tufts.

Like Chi Chapter, Theta Iota Chapter has spun off several Fraternity Chapters in the New England region of the United States: Mu Chi (MX) Chapter at Dartmouth College, Nu Tau (NT) Chapter at University of Massachusetts at Amherst, and Nu Psi Chapter (NΨ) at the University of Connecticut.

Notable Theta Iota Brothers include Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson and United States Department of Justice Assistant Attorney General Kenneth Polite.
