Freeman A. Hrabowski

Freeman A. Hrabowski is President of the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Hrabowski’s research and publications focus on science and math education, with special emphasis on minority participation and performance.

Previously, Hrabowski chaired the National Academies’ committee that produced the recent report, Expanding Underrepresented Minority Participation: America’s Science and Technology Talent at the Crossroads.

Hrabowski was also named by President Obama to chair the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for African-Americans. Hrabowski co-founded the Meyerhoff Scholars Program with philanthropist Robert Meyerhoff.

Hrabowski holds a Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, with highest honors, from Hampton Institute, a Master of Arts degree in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration/ Statistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
