Ford Police Vehicles Can Kill Coronavirus With Superheated Interiors

The Ford Motor Company has developed a procedure to superheat the interior of police SUVs that will kill the coronavirus when no people are inside the vehicle, the company announced.

"What it does is it allows the engine coolant to get much hotter than normal and then it transfers the heat from the coolant system into the vehicle," said Stephen Tyler, who manages the marketing for Ford’s police vehicles, WTOP reported.

The process raises the interior temperature of the SUV to over 133 degrees for 15 minutes.

This procedure will reduce viral concentrations by more than 99 percent in the vehicles.

Ford pilots this process currently with its Explorer-based police interceptor utility.
