The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in D.C., Maryland and Virginia surpassed 100,000 Friday, as jurisdictions in the area slowly begin to reopen after months of lockdown, The Washington Post reported.
Six in every 1,000 residents in the region have tested positive for the virus, with 13,000 patients hospitalized and 4,284 deaths, The Post reported.
Communities of color have been particularly hard-hit by the virus.
Of the 931 zip codes in Maryland and Virginia, the highest infection rates per capita existed in the Black and brown communities, The Post reported.
In the District, the neighborhoods with the highest per capita rates — Stadium-Armory, Brightwood Park and St. Elizabeths — are predominantly Black.
