Allegheny County reported 96 new COVID-19 cases Sunday, its largest single-day increase since the county started reporting the coronavirus case count in March.

Sunday’s report of new record number of daily coronavirus cases came after another record-setting day on Saturday, when the country reported 90 new COVID-19 infections.

Pennsylvania health officials reported 505 new cases Sunday as well as three new deaths.

On Friday afternoon, in a statement the county health department said the 244 new cases reported this week were “overwhelmingly among younger people who were traveling, visiting bars and restaurants, and out in the community.”

Fifteen bars and restaurants were associated with new cases in interviews by the Department of Health, and five were reported multiple times.
