Justice Gerry L. Alexander, former Chief Justice of the Washington State Supreme Court was elected to an open seat on the Court in 1994 and re-elected to the Supreme Court in 2000 and 2006. In 2000 he was elected by his colleagues on the Supreme Court to a four-year term as chief justice. In 2004, Chief Justice Alexander was elected to a second four-year term as chief justice, the first chief justice in Washington’s history to serve two consecutive four-year terms as chief justice.
