Southern Division police have arrested 24 people within 24 hours over the weekend for various offences like having a gun and ammunition in strategic ant-crime exercises.

A police statement on July 28 said around 1.45 am, officers on mobile patrol along Carib Street, San Fernando, stopped and searched a 34-year-old man.

They found a Glock pistol fitted with a magazine containing two rounds of ammunition in the waist of his pants.

The police arrested and took the suspect to the San Fernando police station, pending further inquiries.

Officers also arrested several other suspects for various offences, like having marijuana, cocaine, a device used to smoke cocaine, ammunition, and camouflage clothing.

People were also arrested for attempted murder, robbery with violence, using obscene language, resisting arrest and on outstanding warrants.

Snr Supt Soodeen, Insp Lewis, and Sgts Alexander and Singh co-ordinated the exercise, which Cpl Huggins led.

Investigations are ongoing.
